Behind the Scenes at Jet Ski Puerto Colón — How Tenerife’s Most Trusted Jet Ski Safari Really Works
At Jet Ski Puerto Colón, every day starts earlier than the marina itself. While the boats in Costa Adeje are still quiet, our captains, monitors, and mechanics are already preparing for the day’s adventures. This is the unseen part of our work — the routine that makes our Jet Ski Safari Tenerife one of the safest and best-rated water activities on the island.
Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced rider, this behind-the-scenes look shows what makes our guided tours unique, safe, and unforgettable.
Early Morning at Puerto Colón: Safety Checks, Briefings & Fueling
Before the first guests arrive, our crew meets for a morning briefing. Weather forecasts, ocean conditions, wind direction — everything must be checked. A safe adventure starts long before the jet skis touch the water.
Daily Safety Inspection
Every jet ski is checked by our certified mechanic Martín. This includes:
- engine performance
- emergency stop systems
- life vest condition
- hull stability
- steering response
Safety is not optional — it’s our identity.
Fueling the Fleet
Puerto Colón has its own fuel station. Early mornings bring a line of boats — fishing crews, touring operators, private yachts.
It’s the pulse of the marina waking up.
Meanwhile, our office team prepares:
- reservations
- life jackets
- lockers
- changing rooms
- check-in details
At 9:30 AM, everything is ready for the first Jet Ski Safari.
What Is a Jet Ski Safari?
A Jet Ski Safari is a guided, supervised jet ski experience led by certified instructors. It is the only legal and authorized way to ride a jet ski from Puerto Colón, offering:
- safety and support
- scenic ocean routes
- professional guidance
- real-time monitoring
- formation-based group riding
It’s not a race — it’s a structured ocean adventure designed for all skill levels.
Before You Ride — Changing Rooms, Lockers & Safety Briefing
About 30 minutes before departure:
- Guests change into swimwear
- Phones and valuables go into secure lockers
- Life jackets are fitted individually
Then comes the briefing, where guests learn:
- how the Jet Ski Safari formation works
- how to control the jet ski on the Atlantic
- what the 100-meter distance rule means
- the signals used by captains & monitors
- what to do if you fall off
- how to safely switch seats

How the Jet Ski Safari Works on the Ocean
Depending on the time of day, the group either:
- goes by support boat to open water, or
- departs directly from the marina
Once on the ocean, the formation begins.
The Formation System
A typical formation looks like this:
- Guide (captain/monitor) in front
- Two jet skis behind, forming the left and right point
- Another pair behind them
Distance: 100 meters.
Why?
Jet skis do not have brakes.
The distance ensures that if someone falls, the jet ski behind has enough reaction time.
This rule is non-negotiable.
Safety Rules During the Tour
During the ride:
- no phones
- no drinking/eating
- no smoking
- hands must remain free
These rules come from maritime safety regulations across Spain and all certified jet ski operators in the Canary Islands.
Mid-Tour Break — Photos, Swimming & Driver Swap
In the middle of the adventure, the group stops to:
- change drivers (for double jet skis)
- swim in open ocean
- enjoy the views
- take a breath
Meanwhile, the captain takes professional photos.
After the tour, pictures can be purchased at the office.
